Talk Abstract

Over the past few decades, the urgent challenge of climate change has raised significant concerns worldwide. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas has been identified as the major reason driving climate change. A global effort has been launched to replace traditional fossil fuels with cleaner, more economical, and healthier renewable energy sources. Distributed energy resources (DERs) - such as rooftop photovoltaic (PV) panels, energy storage systems (ESSs), and EVs - are increasing rapidly, showing great potential to transform operators and users toward cleaner and more resilient energy supplies by harvesting and distributing various renewable energies tailored to the profiles of distinct local communities. An equitable and user-centric market is essential in this transformation. New designs, mechanisms, and technologies are needed to establish a DER-based, self-sustaining clean energy ecosystem at the edge of power grids for a diverse spectrum of communities and stakeholders. This talk will focus on our recent research efforts to explore use-inspired research on innovative paradigms, mechanisms, technologies, and talents that will enable user-centric clean energy markets of grid-interactive communities in an international context.
